LA CRESCENTA -- Members of the Crescenta Valley Town Council,

initially frustrated at losing familiar representatives to redistricting,

are starting to breath sighs of relief after meeting Congressman David

Dreier (R-Covina).

At Thursday's town council meeting, Dreier was told by several members

that he had taken the right step toward winning over the community just

by attending the meeting.

Dreier is set to inherit La Crescenta and surrounding areas from Rep.

Adam Schiff (D-Glendale) should he win the November congressional

election.

"We will continue to work together to serve this community," Schiff

said. "They will be inheriting someone who's a very good representative."

Dreier told council members he will continue to be available to the

community.

"Whenever you have a need, please, please do not hesitate to get in

touch with me," Dreier said.

He added that he plans to open field offices staffed with

representatives to serve his constituents when he can not be present to

do so himself, and that he will try his "darndest" to get allocated funds

to them.

Although strongly favored to win the election, Dreier is not running

unopposed. Marjorie Musser Mikels (D-Upland) decided to run against

Dreier when she found out that he was running unopposed. Mikels did not

appear to make as favorable an impression on council members as Dreier

did at Thursday's meeting.

Town Council President Danette Erickson said she didn't feel Mikels

understood the needs of the community based on her statements to the

panel, and that she was unable to answer specific questions put to her.

"I think we'll do well with Mr. Dreier," Erickson said. "We'll work

with him and make the most of it."
