Letter -- Matt Spencer

March 11, 2002

Last year, I sent in a photo editorial related to the Montrose Family

Festival, which you were kind enough to run.

After reading Greg Martin's letter in the Feb. 13 issue of the

News-Press, I am back with another photo editorial response to his

letter, which truly made me feel embarrassed to leave his words to

represent those of us who have children and don't require "kiddie rides"

to make an entertaining family day out, who attend church and, yes,

actually do things afterward like attend farmers' markets, and who

believe that what other people do with their Sundays is their business.

It has been asserted repeatedly that a farmers' market isn't a family

event because it doesn't have rides. For the record, I went to several

Sunday morning farmers' markets with my camera and now present the

following photographic evidence that Mr. Martin doesn't have a clue about

farmers' markets and obviously has never been to one.

(The following "sinful families" having a marvelous time with their

kids (and no rides) at the following Sunday morning farmers' markets:

Left to right top: Claremont, Encino, Hancock Park, Beverly Hills.

Left to right bottom: Santa Clarita, Pacific Palisades, Long Beach,

and Santa Monica.
