GLENDLAE -- Odds and ends from the local high school softball scene:

On top of her game: Just how dominating was La Canada High softball

pitcher Kelly Kalish during Thursday's nonleague scoreless game against

Village Christian?

The senior threw 129 pitches, 109 of which were strikes. She went to a

three-ball count only once and exceeded more than 10 pitches in an inning

just five times.

Battling a viral infection, Kalish retired 10 in a row from the end of

the seventh to the end of the 10th inning.

Kalish's friend and counterpart, Lauren Nydam, was just as strong. She

threw 154 pitches, 110 of which were strikes. She had a perfect game bid

through 5 1/3 innings before Tricia Linden singled to left.

"I think it was what everyone made it out to be," Spartan Coach Bart

Dickins said. "They really are two of the premier pitchers in the area.

They both battled and threw some great pitches when it counted."
