'Witness for the Prosecution' next Alex film

DOWNTOWN -- Actress Ruta Lee will make a special appearance at the

evening screening of Billy Wilder's "Witness for the Prosecution" (United

Artists 1957) on April 13 at The Alex Theatre.

The film will be screened at 2 and 8 p.m. presented by The Alex Film

Society. It is the screen adaptation of Agatha Christie's hit play.

The society is again featuring a dish night, a tradition first

introduced during the Depression to get people back into the theater.

Free dishes will be given to the first 400 patrons at the 8 p.m.

screening.

"Witness" stars Charles Laughton, Marlene Dietrich, Elsa Lanchester

and Tyrone Power. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best

Picture.

Also on the program will be a tribute to the late Chuck Jones, along

with a Warner Pathe newsreel from 1956. The newsreel was reassembled from

film clips by Alex projectionist George Crittenden.
