LOS ANGELES -- A preliminary hearing is set to continue today for

three teens accused of stabbing Raul Aguirre to death outside of Toll

Middle School on May 5, 2000.

Karen Terteryan, Rafael Gevorgyan and Anait Msryan have been in

custody since hours after Aguirre's death. Terteryan was 17 at the time

of what police describe as an attack in which Aguirre tried to intervene.

Gevorgyan, then 15, allegedly hit Aguirre in the head with a crowbar

and Terteryan is accused of stabbing him. Msryan, then 14, is accused of

driving the boys to the scene.

In several hours of testimony, only one witness was questioned --

Glendale Police investigator Dennis Smith, who was the lead investigator

in the case, said Mark Geragos, Terteryan's attorney.

The prosecution questioned Smith for just 10 minutes, but defense

attorneys cross-examined him for more than two hours, Deputy Dist. Atty.

Darrell Mavis said. He declined to comment further on the testimony.

The attorneys for Gevorgyan and Msryan could not be reached for

comment.

The prosecution hopes to finish the preliminary hearing today, Mavis

said.
