Future scientists fare well

GLENDALE -- Lisa Gladstone's physical science students at Wilson

Middle School returned from the state Science Olympiad competition with

several awards.

Fifteen of Gladstone's seventh- and eighth-grade students attended the

Science Olympiad Saturday, April 13 at Cal State Long Beach.

Gladstone's students had to show proficiency and knowledge of things

like small rockets, 'battery buggies,' small airplanes, bridges, tectonic

plates, water pollutants and volcanic activity. A free-falling egg

experiment tested students' use of simple materials and creativity.

Gladstone's students took 10th overall out of 27 schools that

participated in last week's competition. Wilson students won first place

in the egg experiment and third place for bridge building and airplane

testing, as well as awards for fourth and sixth place in other

categories.
