Songs to teach children history

LA CRESCENTA -- A journey through American music and history is

planned at the La Crescenta Library on Saturday.

Performer Craig Newton will bring about 10 different instruments and

play songs like "This Land is Your Land," "Yankee Doodle" and "Hound

Dog."

The program is meant to teach students about the history of America

through songs from different eras. Some of the historical periods

discussed include colonization, slavery and the cowboy era.

Songs will be interspersed with discussion on the historical periods.

The library is at 4521 La Crescenta Ave. The program begins at 2 p.m.
