Church Women United has Salad Bar Luncheon

GLENDALE -- Church Women United will celebrate the 25th

anniversary of its Salad Bar Luncheon benefiting the Salvation Army

Meals on Wheels lunch program.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 9 at the First

United Methodist Church of Glendale, 130 N. Kenwood St.

Donation for lunch is $6, and participants can choose from a

variety of meat, vegetable and gelatin salads, enough to feed 500

people, said Jean Parks, president of Church Women United. Members of

Church Women United, who are from churches throughout the city, make

the salads for the event, Parks said.

Dr. Dan Urrutia of Incarnation Church will play the piano during

the luncheon.

Leftovers will go to feed those assisted by the Salvation Army's

daily lunch program.

Funds raised benefit the Meals on Wheels program, in which

volunteers of the Salvation Army provide meals to shut-ins and the

needy in Glendale.

Spiritual healer gives talk Sunday

MONTROSE -- Barbara Fife, a spiritual healer, will give a free

talk titled "Taking Control of Our Lives Through Prayer" at 1:30 p.m.

Sunday at the Third Church of Christ Scientist auditorium, 2406

Honolulu Ave.

She uses personal stories to illustrate the healing effect,

physical, moral and mental, of applying spiritual concepts.

Honolulu Avenue will be closed for the Montrose Harvest Market, so

parking is available in lots and on side streets.

Cuisine event raises funds for scholarships

GLENDALE -- Holy Family High School will sponsor its "A Midsummer

Night's Cuisine" to benefit the school's education and scholarship

fund from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday at 209 E. Lomita Ave.

Guests will dine on gourmet foods from restaurants in Glendale,

Burbank, Pasadena and Los Angeles and sip wines from vineyards of

Atlas Peak, Chalone Wine Group and others.

The Glen Roberts Big Band will play music for dancing. Also

performing will be the band Stunt Road, headed by Glendale

businessman Andy Roth, which plays classic rock music from the '60s

and '70s.

Drawing prizes include a 2002 Mercedes Benz "C" class automobile,

trip for two to Hawaii and trip for two to Cancun.

Message is 'The Power of Your Word'

GLENDALE -- The Rev. Bonnie Rowsell of the Glendale Church of

Religious Science will speak on "The Power of Your Word," at the 10

a.m. Sunday service.

A 15-minute meditation is at 9:30 a.m. Children's Church for ages

5 to 12 is at 10 a.m. Child care is provided.
