His last outing was promising, but as Wednesday's performance goes

to show, Jim Parque still has a long way to go if he hopes to find a

spot in the starting rotation next year for the Chicago White Sox.

The former Crescenta Valley High standout lasted just 1 1/3

Wednesday in his second start of the season after suffering a

partially torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder last season.

After a couple stints at triple-A Charlotte earlier this season,

the left-handed Parque returned Aug. 8 to beat the Anaheim Angels

after throwing a strong 5 1/3 innings to earn his first win since

Sept. of 2000.

But against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday at the Ballpark in

Arlington, Texas, Parque allowed four hits, walked three and was

charged with five runs -- all earned. The Rangers hung on to defeat

the White Sox, 11-6.

Parque, who is 1-2 with a 9.19 earned-run average this season,

threw 47 pitches, 23 for strikes.

Rafael Palmeiro hit a three-run home run in the first off Parque,

his 32nd of the season. It was also the eighth home run Parque has

allowed this year in just 12 1/3 innings.
