Watercolors, pen and ink drawings shown at Boddy House

Four artists are featured in the new exhibit at the Boddy House

Art Gallery in Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge. Those

showing their works are Shirley Flynn, Lynn Hendricks, Jean Sherman

and Russell Hobbs.

Flynn works in watercolors as well as oils. The La Canada

Flintridge resident depicts memories of her communities revealed

through the beauty of landscapes and structures.

Hobbs is displaying his pen and ink drawings of Pasadena

historical landmarks, bungalows of the early part of this century,

the Huntington Gardens, California Institute of Technology and scenes

from across America and Italy.

Hendricks and Sherman will be showing their ceramics works.

A reception for the artists will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sunday. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The exhibit

continues through Oct. 24.

Descanso Gardens is at 1418 Descanso Drive in La Canada

Flintridge.

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA AT ALEX THEATRE

Music Director Jeffrey Kahane and the Los Angeles Chamber

Orchestra welcome back young American violinist Hilary Hahn to open

the 2002-2003 season at 8 tonight at The Alex Theatre in Glendale.

The audience will preview Hahn's recording of two Bach concertos

with the orchestra. The orchestra is recording the complete Bach

violin concertos for Sony Classical during the 2002-2003 season:

violin concertos nos. 1 and 2, the double violin concerto with Hahn

and concertmaster Margaret Batjer, and the double concerto for violin

and oboe with Hahn and principal oboe Allan Vogel.

Tickets will be available at the door. The Alex is at 216 N. Brand

Blvd., Glendale.

AUTUMN FESTIVAL BENEFITS FOSTER AGENCY

Folk singers Laura Lind and Adam Miller will perform a family

benefit concert of old-time country, gospel and traditional folk

songs at 2 p.m. today at Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church in Sunland.

The husband-and-wife team are three-time winners of the People's

Choice Award for outstanding musical performance on the open stage of

the Mountain Laurel Autoharp Gathering in Newport, Penn. Their CD,

"Wild Birds," is receiving airplay in 17 countries.

The concert is part of the church's ninth annual Autumn Festival

and Bluegrass Competition today and Sunday. Proceeds benefit the

Florence Crittendon Foster Family Place Agency in Glendale.

There will be entertainment, food, games, vendor booths, raffles,

bake sale, snow sledding and an acclaimed bluegrass competition that

draws musicians from all over Southern California.
