City to celebrate new Beeline route today

SOUTHEAST GLENDALE -- Glendale will kick off its new Beeline Route

6 at 7:45 a.m. today in front of Glendale High School.

Mayor Rafi Manoukian, as well as officials from Glendale Unified

School District and the city's Transportation and Parking Commission,

are scheduled to ride the Beeline Route 6 to Glendale High School to

participate in a ceremony with students, faculty, staff and the

general public.

Beeline Route 6 provides service along Colorado Street from San

Fernando Road to the city's eastern border. The route's stops include

Glendale High School, Glendale Public Library's Central branch, the

Adult Recreation Center, Glendale Galleria, Pacific/Edison

neighborhood and Department of Social Services offices on San

Fernando Road.

Glendale High School is at 1440 E. Broadway.

Civil Service Commission to meet this evening

GLENDALE CITY HALL -- The Civil Service Commission will meet at 5

p.m. today in council chambers at City Hall, 613 E. Broadway.

The commission will consider approving bulletins for a police

communication shift supervisor, library-services administrator and

senior library supervisor. In addition, the commission will review

the disciplinary appeal hearing policies and procedures and code of

conduct for city employees and whether fees paid to outside counsel

by the city are public record.

Design Review Board to meet Thursday

GLENDALE CITY HALL -- The Design Review Board will meet at 1 p.m.

Thursday in council chambers, 613 E. Broadway.

The board will discuss the construction projects of applicants at

601 W. Glenoaks Blvd., 501 S. Glendale Ave., 1816 Bagdad Place and

3259 Mills Ave.

Peace vigil set for Friday outside armory

GLENDALE -- A group of Glendale and area residents are expected to

gather outside the National Guard Armory on Friday to conduct a peace

vigil against President Bush's call for military action in Iraq.

The vigil will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at 220 E. Colorado St.

Organizers, who work in conjunction with the Coalition for World

Peace, want local residents to know there are people who do not

support an attack on Iraq.

Glendale Humane Society rolls out new programs

GLENDALE -- The Glendale Humane Society will offer a new low-cost

spay and neuter program called The Lewis Program between Monday and

Nov. 15.

Glendale residents who have unaltered dogs or cats can receive

vouchers from the Glendale Humane Society costing $20 for a male pet

and $40 for a female pet. Vouchers will allow residents to make

appointments with participating veterinarians.

In addition, the shelter will be open Sundays for pet adoptions

from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Sunday. The Glendale Humane Society

will be closed Mondays.
