October 26, 2002

The Stepping Stone Players, Glendale's nonprofit community theater

group, gear up for a new season following their third success with

September's production of "Bye Bye Birdie."

Spokeswoman and Mark Keppel Elementary parent Lee Briggs said the

troupe can continue to grow and develop its goal to provide quality

community theater. If you would like to become involved with either

production or fund-raising, please call 246-8822 or online

appreciated. A large part of their plan is to continue reaching out

to and including the deaf community by offering performances

interpreted by American Sign Language.

Their vision is to create a sense of community through theater by

encouraging the participation of people of all ages and backgrounds.

The group provides a truly unique opportunity for children and adults

to explore, learn, perform and mentor in every facet of live theater.

Here's what's happening in the Hoover cluster schools.

HOOVER HIGH SCHOOL

In an effort to improve communication with parents, the Glendale

Unified Board of Education is opening communication lines, PTA

President Doris Kouyias said. A call-in program has been started on

Channel 15 offering information regarding school policies, grading,

tests, etc. A panel is available to answer questions live in various

languages. To date, Armenian and Spanish have been offered. Coming in

November, Korean-speaking panelists will be available. For more

information and air times, call the school office, 242-6801.

TOLL MIDDLE SCHOOL

Glendale Police Detective Tim Feeley will present a program on the

dangers of the popular drug, Ecstasy, and the popular Rave parties at

7 p.m. Nov. 4 in the auditorium, PTA President Elaine McCoy said. A

short PTA business meeting will precede the program at 6:30 p.m.

Principal Jan Homan invites everyone to tune in to Channel 15 at

3:30 p.m. Nov. 5. Toll will be showcased at the School Board meeting.

It's a great opportunity to see what makes up a National Blue Ribbon

school.

Homan extends another invitation to all Toll parents to join her

for coffee and bagels from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. Nov. 6 in the library.

BALBOA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The PTA invites students on Tracks A and B to enter the

Reflections Art Contest starting Tuesday. For information and entry

forms, call the school office at 241-1801.

COLUMBUS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Tracks A and B start their fall fund-raiser Monday for grades 1-6.
