Man drives car at police

SOUTHEAST GLENDALE -- A Glendale Police officer investigating a

report of a prowler was nearly struck when the man tried to hit the

officer with his car while trying to escape.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday in an alley in

the 200 block of South Chevy Chase Drive.

Two officers had just entered the alley when a man drove his car

around their squad car and at one of the officers, police reports

said.

The officer was able to move out of the way of the car.

Tracking down the license plate, police arrested 28-year-old

Shahik Khodabakshian of Glendale on suspicion of assaulting a police

officer with a deadly weapon.

During the arrest, police also confiscated four rifles, a shotgun

and ammunition from Khodabakshian's home, police reports said.

Chamber mixer set for Nov. 13

MONTROSE -- The Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce will

hold its next mixer Nov. 13.

The Latin-themed event, which will include Latin food and

beverages and salsa dancing lessons, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at

Grizzly's -- The Creative Source, 3521 N. Verdugo Road.

The mixer costs $3 for members, $5 for nonmembers.

Design Review Board to meet

GLENDALE CITY HALL -- Design Review Board No. 2 will meet at 1

p.m. Thursday to discuss six construction projects.

The board will review applications for construction -- which

include new homes, square-footage additions and erecting a solar

panel -- at 2960 Honolulu Ave., 1435 Melwood Drive, 600 Caleb St.,

1625 Allen Ave., 3142 Grangemount Road and 2729 Hermosa Ave.

The board will meet in Room 105 of the Municipal Services

Building, 633 E. Broadway.

Panel to focus on comics Wednesday

GLENDALE -- A panel discussion at the Glendale Central Library

will focus on all aspects of the world of comics.

Members of the panel will discuss distribution, the economics of

self-publishing, work-for-hire comics based on pre-existing animated

characters and how to create successful properties and promote your

work.

Participants include Michel Gagne, Mike Kazaleh, Milton Knight and

Gabe Swarr, and the discussion will be moderated by "Animation Blast"

editor Amid Amidi.

The event is at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of the Glendale

Central Library, 222 E. Harvard St.

The cost is $3 for members of the Association Internationale Du

Film D'Animation, $5 for nonmembers.

City Council, Design Review boards to meet

GLENDALE CITY HALL -- The City Council and two Design Review

Boards will meet at 10 a.m. today for a special meeting in Room 105

of the Municipal Services Building, 633 E. Broadway.

The three groups will discuss changes to design review

requirements, exemptions and landscaping and maintenance issues.
