Media arts presented in gallery show

"Suburban Sites/Insights," a display of experimental media arts,

opens Tuesday in the Glendale Community College Art Gallery.

It is part of the larger exhibition "TV or not to TV," L.A.

Freewaves Eighth Biennial Celebration of Experimental Media Arts. It

continues through Dec. 13.

Other venues participating in the festival include MOCA, Self-Help

Graphics, Leimert Park, The Gay and Lesbian Center and L.A. Public

Library.

A panel of artists, critics and curators selected works from more

than 1,000 international entries.

GCC's exhibit will feature "Have You Ever Tried it This Way?" a

60-minute program of short video works, two video projections, a

Web-based video and an anonymous artist's Web site.

A reception for the artists is from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the

gallery.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through

Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Admission is free.

MEET WITH COLLEGE REPS AT EVENING FAIR

An evening Transfer Fair will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at GCC.

The evening fair gives working students an opportunity to explore

their transfer options. The event is sponsored by the GCC Transfer

Center.

Representatives from many colleges and universities will have

tables set up on the San Rafael Plaza. They include reps from the UC

and CSU systems, as well as private schools.

GCC HAS FREE BUSINESS AND COMPUTER CLASSES

Free computer classes are offered by the GCC Non-Credit Education

program beginning this month and in December.

The classes are at the Adult Community Training Center at 1122 E.

Garfield Ave.

Due to the high demand for computer classes, enrollment is

determined by a lottery system. Those who wish to enroll must come to

the east wall of the training center's parking lot on the first day

of class, 30 minutes before the class begins. Student names will be

drawn to fill available spots in each class.

Classes are offered mornings, afternoons and evenings. Upcoming

classes include the basic course Introduction to Computers.

Completion of the course is recommended before taking more advanced

courses. It is offered as a one-week class from 8 a.m. to noon Monday

through Thursday, starting Dec. 9.

The class is also offered from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. for two weeks

Mondays and Wednesdays starting Nov. 25. The evening class is from

5:30 to 9:30 p.m. for two weeks Mondays and Wednesdays starting Nov.

25, Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Dec. 10.

Other computer classes include MS Word 2000 and Advanced MS Word

2000, Web Page Design, Windows 98, MS Excel 2000 and Introduction to

the Internet.

CAMPUS CLOSED FOR HOLIDAY

Glendale College will be closed Monday for the Veterans Day

holiday.
