Art exhibit that helps students with special needs

The works of artists Adrian Wong Shue and Peter Shire are on

display from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Art Exhibit and Sale

benefiting Hillside Learning Center.

Shire's metal sculptures are part of the California landscape in

the neighborhoods of Elysian Park, the Burbank Empire Center and the

MTA Station at Wilshire and Vermont.

A donation will be made to Hillside for each piece sold at the

event on the campus at 4331 Oak Grove Drive, La Canada Flintridge.

There is no admission fee, and refreshments will be served.

Hillside was founded in 1971 in La Canada Flintridge, and offers a

variety of services to students who struggle in a traditional

academic environment for a variety of reasons.

It is a nonprofit organization certified by the California

Department of Special Education, with curriculum approved by the

University of California and the National Collegiate Athletic Assn.

School and counseling services are provided for grades 7 to 12,

night-school classes for grades 9 to 12, educational therapy for

kindergarten to adult and summer school is offered for grades 9 to

12.

Hillside provides after-school and evening educational therapy,

full- and part-time high school classes to students needing a more

personalized approach to learning and therapeutic counseling to

children and their families.

Hillside students come from the Los Angeles, Glendale, Pasadena,

Burbank, and La Canada school districts meeting the educational

needs of students from public, private and parochial schools.

Car club collects food for needy at show

The Road'ers Car Club will sponsor its Turkey Night Cruise-In from

6 to 9 p.m. today at Bob's Big Boy, 1407 W. Glenoaks Blvd.,

Glendale.

The club will be collecting food for The Salvation Army. Please

bring a can or two to help someone less fortunate.

The night events include disc-jockey music, raffles, a 50/50

opportunity and trophies for the top cars in several categories.

Please come early if you are showing a car.

Last month's Best of Show trophy was won by Howard Branner for his

1933 Buick.

Officers who were recently elected are Rick Fox, president; Terry

Pittson, vice president; Vince Cicone, secretary; Jack Smoker,

treasurer; Carl Casanova and John Willoh, co-event coordinators; and

Willy Alvarado, sergeant-at-arms.
