General volunteer orientation planned

GLENDALE -- The Glendale-Crescenta Valley Chapter of the American

Red Cross is holding an orientation for residents interested in

volunteering for the organization.

Information on various chapter services, including disaster and

health and safety, will be given at the orientation, as well as

information on volunteer and training opportunities available.

The orientation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapter, 1501

S. Brand Blvd. There is no cost to attend.

Descanso Gardens site of bird walk

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Representatives from the San Fernando

Valley Audubon Society will lead an instructional bird walk Sunday at

Descanso Gardens.

Tour guides will provide information on birds native to passing

through Southern California. The bird walks are the second and fourth

Sunday of every month at Descanso Gardens.

There is no cost to attend. Participants should meet at 8 a.m. at

the Center Circle at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive.
