Soprano Garineh Avakian, 21, the daughter of Avak and Salpi
Avakian of La Crescenta, will perform her senior opera recital at 2
p.m. Sunday at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She will
graduate from the conservatory this month.
She attended Chamlian Armenian School in Glendale until the eighth
grade and spent one year at Crescenta Valley High School before
transferring to the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.
The soprano will perform the music of Bach, Schumann, Donizetti,
Benjamin Britten, Renaldo Hahn and Charles Ives in a variety of music
styles, tempos and languages including Italian and German.

Area students attended Pepperdine University 's 25th anniversary
Youth Citizenship seminar on the Malibu campus. They are Elisabeth
Coleman, Santosh Desai, Jade Ku, Evie Rodriguez, all of Burbank, and
John Thomas and Candice Yee, both of Glendale.
Students from the local area made the deans' list at Azusa Pacific
University.
They are Elizabeth F. Godwin, a liberal studies major from
Glendale; Nicole M. Goodwin, a liberal studies major from La Canada
Flintridge; Traci L. Lehman, a Christian ministries major from La
Canada Flintridge; Sarah B. Sayovitz, a business administration major

from La Canada Flintridge; Jacqueline D. Yocom, a social work major
from La Canada Flintridge; Jimmy S. McBirney, a communication studies
major from La Crescenta; Joshua A. Moreno, a political science major
from La Crescenta; Robyn L. Summers, a liberal studies major from La
Crescenta; Masaru Suzuki, an art major from La Crescenta; and Dale S.
Becker, a music major from Montrose.
Stephanie Moore, the daughter of Terry and Mary Moore of Glendale,
has graduated from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Shane Miller of Montrose, majoring in criminal justice, has made
the dean's list at California Lutheran University.
