Society makes book available

LA CRESCENTA -- Residents interested in La Crescenta history can

purchase copies of "Sources of History -- La Crescenta" by June

Dougherty.

The La Crescenta Historical Society is reproducing copies of the

book for those who place orders. Copies cost $30 each, and will be

available at the Dec. 16 meeting of the society.

Dougherty was honored by the society in October for her work on

the book. It is a compilation of newspaper clippings and other

documents pertaining to the area.

Open swim kicks off family celebration

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- The Crescenta-Canada YMCA is hosting an

open swim Sunday in celebration of National Family Week.

Swim hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. at the YMCA, 1930 Foothill Blvd.

Residents do not need to be a member of the YMCA to swim.

National Family Week began Sunday and ends Saturday. It is

celebrated by more than 500 other organizations nationwide to focus

on the role families play in communities.

Churches pitch in for building project

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Parishioners of churches in the La Canada

Circle of Faith can purchase a gift card to help three local families

in south Glendale receiving assistance from Habitat for Humanity.

Items needed to build homes will be listed on the cards, and

purchased items will be donated in the name of the recipient to the

San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity Build in south Glendale.

Cards can be purchased at several local houses of worship during

the first, second and third Sundays in December.

Participating fellowships include La Canada United Methodist

Church, St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, La Canada

Presbyterian Church, St. George's Episcopal Church, Church of the

Lighted Window, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and

Temple Sinai in Glendale.

City offices close for holiday

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- La Canada Flintridge City Hall will be

closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.

Offices will reopen Monday. Normal hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mondays through Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays.

Those with pressing questions can stop by City Hall at 1327

Foothill Blvd., or call the administration office at 790-8880,

Planning Department at 790-8881 or the Public Works Department at

790-8882.
