Make-up, wigs focus of opera talk
LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- The behind the scenes of opera productions
is the topic for the next in a series of talks at the La Canada
Flintridge Library.
Learn all about make-up and wigs used for operas from a
representative from the Los Angeles Opera League. The talk is part of
a series focusing on opera, sponsored by the County of Los Angeles
Public Library and the league.
The talk begins at 6:30 p.m. today. The library is at 4545 Oakwood

Replacement project to begin in December
GLENDALE -- Construction on a water main could begin next week on
Clifton and Park places.
The Crescenta Valley Water District will replace the main, and
work is limited to the streets between Verdugo Road and Broadway
Avenue. Construction is scheduled to be done at night, but any
residents or businesses affected by temporary traffic or parking
restrictions will be notified 48 hours in advance.
Construction is expected to end in January. For more information

Holiday party at Descanso Gardens
LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Descanso Gardens is throwing a party in
celebration of its holiday celebration.
The Holiday Festival Preview Party will allow guests to be the
first to visit the annual Holiday Festival and Marketplace, where
they can shop for gifts and decorations.
The party will also include live musical entertainment and dinner.
Festivities are from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, but reservations
are needed by today. The cost is $50 per person, and $20 of that is
tax-deductible.

Learn first aid through Red Cross
GLENDALE -- The Glendale-Crescenta Valley Chapter of the American
Red Cross is holding a course in first-aid basics Tuesday.
Students will learn how to treat bleeding, fractures, burns,
shock, poisoning, seizures and diabetic emergencies. Those who
successfully complete the course will be certified in first-aid
basics for three years.
The class is from 6 to 10 p.m. at the chapter, 1501 S. Brand Blvd.
The cost is $27.
