A thousand kids gathered at New Horizons Family Center on Friday

night, and every one of them went home with a toy.

The kids and their parents were also treated to food, drinks,

games and even a visit from Santa Claus. It was the organization's

eighth annual toy giveaway, and each year the event has grown. Last

year's celebration drew around 900 kids, Marketing Director Bill

Branch said.

Children from throughout Glendale were invited to attend the

event. The toys were donated from a number of businesses and

individuals, including Mattel, Dreamworks, Trader Joe's and the

Glendale Fire Department.

Branch hopes the event helps introduce some people to the services

and activities available at New Horizons, including day care,

tutoring, mentoring and counseling.
