Meteorologists are calling for a brief respite from rain today but

suggest keeping the umbrellas and galoshes handy for about another

week.

"Today will be our driest day," said Curt Kaplan, a meteorologist

with the National Weather Service.

Forecasters are calling for partly cloudy skies and highs in the

upper 50s to mid-60s today, with rain returning by Thursday

afternoon. Intermittent showers are expected to last until Tuesday.

The rain is wreaking havoc on the hillsides charred in a Sept. 9

fire in Brand Park. The roads are impassable beyond the intersection

of the Brand Lateral Fire Road and the Brand Motorway, where Pomeroy

Creek has flooded, Glendale Urban Fire Forester Doug Nickles said.

City officials say they can do nothing to prevent further erosion

until the rains stop.
