Seeds of Peace hopes to have a strategic plan for a teen center

developed by March, enabling the organization to apply for funding

for the project in spring of next year, volunteer Nancy Stone said.

The organization has been working on establishing a teen center

for the Crescenta Valley for about 1 1/2 years, in partnership with

the lead agency on the project, the Crescenta-Canada YMCA.

"It's been a slow process, due in part to the change of leadership

at the Y," Stone said. "We're hoping now we can really start moving

forward. There are just a lot of people up here that just feel so

strongly about having this."

Officials are still not sure where the center would be located or

what it would cost, but ideally hope to find a site within walking

distance of Rosemont Middle School and Crescenta Valley High School.

The center would include tutoring resources, dances, game rooms

and counseling, and would be targeted at kids between 10 and 16.

Funding sources for the center have not been determined, Stone

said.

The YMCA has said in the past it would subsidize the project, and

grant options will also be looked at to help finance the center.
