Volunteers needed for tax aid program

December 31, 2002

The AARP, formerly the American Assn. of Retired Persons, and the

Internal Revenue Service are seeking volunteers for their tax-help

program.

The two groups provide aid for older or disabled taxpayers during

the tax season. Taxpayers who have low to moderate income are also

eligible for help.

Volunteers will take classes on the tax code and will be certified

by the IRS after passing a written test. No previous tax-preparation

experience is required.

Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Montrose Library, 2465

Honolulu Ave. Participants should bring a calculator, pen and pencil

to class.
