McKenna-Scripps College. Flintridge Prep's girls' team, led by

events.

Glendale's Kim Ramirez finished third in the Division I girls'

championships at Cerritos College in Norwalk.

Kevin Herron of St. Francis took third in the Division III boys'

200 race and teammate Pat Donovan finished seventh in the 800. La

Canada's Nick Sinclitico was ninth in the Division III boys' shot put

event.

Hoover Coach Greg Switzer retired after turning around the

school's track and field and cross-country teams.

BOYS' GOLF

Flintridge Prep's Brett Kanda and Grant Haney of St. Francis took

center stage and dominated the local golf scene. Kanda, a savvy

freshman, and Haney qualified for the CIF Southern California

Sectionals in Camarillo.

Kanda, expected to be the next elite player at Flintridge Prep,

helped the Rebels gain a share of the Prep League championship with

Pasadena La Salle.

Kanda competed in July at the 55th annual U.S. Junior Amateur

Championship in Duluth, Ga. He became the first Flintridge Prep

athlete to play in the event since Jeff Osborn participated in the

2000 rendition in Oregon. Kanda's bid for match play fell short by

one stroke despite erratic weather. He carded a 152 after two rounds

of stroke play. The two rounds of stroke play concluded with a

14-player-for-eight berth playoff.

Haney, a senior, finished third in the Mission League. He helped

St. Francis to two nonleague tri-match victories against La Canada

and Flintridge Prep and earned low-medalist honors in the second

meeting.
