before, during and after matches and games. Athletes, volunteers,

organizers, family, friends and Glendale Police officers and

firefighters all participated in the opening ceremonies, during which

a torch was carried onto Glendale High's football field. The Special

Olympics torch is being carried 1,500 miles and will be taken June 6

to the Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games at Cal State

Long Beach. The Hoover High School jazz band, along with several area

ensembles, performed at the event.
