Lee lone local to qualify

It's a tradition for the Crescenta Valley High boys' swim team to

make a large splash at the CIF Southern Section Division II final.

Since their offseason move to Division I, that splash was reduced

Wednesday to a ripple during the division prelims at Long Beach

Belmont Plaza.

Junior Peter Lee clocked 1 minute 78 seconds to finish eighth in

the 100-yard breaststroke and qualify for the final, which will be

held at 6 p.m. Friday. Lee also recorded a mark of 53.59 to place

13th to qualify for the consolation heat in the 100 butterfly.

Lee, who swam 28.56 on the first lap of the breaststroke, will be

the lone CV representative vying for a division championship. The

Falcons won team championships from 1998-2000 to establish themselves

as one of the elite programs in Southern California.

CV's 200 medley relay team of Seong Jin Moon, Lee, Jeff Benzer and

Chris Sherman finished 17th with a mark of 1:42.40. In the 400

freestyle relay, the quartet clocked 3:21.79 to place 22nd.

Lee won Pacific League championships this season in the butterfly

and breaststroke.

Adam Hewko of Anaheim Servite won the breaststroke Wednesday with

a mark of 58.29.
