Jazz festival showcases 21 bands

The count now stands at 21 bands scheduled to play for the third

annual Glendale Jazz Festival on June 28 organized by the Kiwanis

Club of Glendale.

The "World of Jazz" will be from noon to 11 p.m. at Glendale

Community College.

Every style of jazz will be presented -- from smooth and

straight-ahead sounds to Latin, from intimate blues to Chicago jazz,

and from Dixieland to 1940s and 1950s swing.

Louis Cruz Beltran is bringing his sizzling Latin jazz sounds to

this year's festival. Yve Evans will play intimate blues, while the

Jennifer York Quartet will entertain straight-ahead jazz lovers. The

Swingin' Deacons and the Heddon Street Band will offer smooth jazz.

To wrap it all up, Hoover High School's Jazz Ensemble and the

Glendale College Jazz Band and Choral Presentation also will perform.

Tickets are $25, $10 for students with identification and free for

children younger than 12. Tickets are $60 for the gourmet

dinner/entry pass, which has seatings open at 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m.
