Locals to take part in prominent tournament

There will be plenty of local flavor at the 101st annual Southern

California Tennis Assn. Junior Sectional Championship. Twenty five

area players will play in the prominent tournaments.

Vahe Assadourian and Sam Tadevosian -- who helped the Hoover boys'

tennis team win the CIF Southern Section Division I championship in

2002 -- will be in the 18-year-old main singles draw, which features

32 players and starts Wednesday at the Los Caballeros Sports Village

in Fountain Valley. Their first-round opponents have yet to be

finalized.

Stanley Sarapanich, a 2003 Crescenta Valley graduate, and Tom

McCullough, a 2003 Flintridge Prep grad, will compete in the boys' 18

singles event, which begins Saturday at the Los Caballeros Sports

Village.

McCullough and Sarapanich each have first-round byes.

Glendale residents Jason Caldito, Hovsep Gasamanian and Hakop

Tadevosian will join Sarapanich and McCullough in the 256-player

draw.

Sergy Vagramian, a standout at Hoover in 2002, will be the lone

local representative in the boys' 16 main singles draw. The

second-seeded Vagramian should meet Rasha King Homneyom on Thursday

at the Neal Machander Tennis Center in Santa Ana in a second-round

match.

La Canada Flintridge resident Anand Muthiah, Glendale High

sophomore Mike Youn and Glendale resident Norik Otuzbiryan will also

be in the boys' 16 singles tournament Saturday

Local residents Gregory Blikian, Alex Sarkissian, Edmond Halebian

and Paul Nagapetyan will play in the boys' 14 singles draw Saturday

at Irvine Valley College. Grayson Frazier, a La Canada Flintridge

resident, will be in the boys' 12 draw Saturday at Irvine's Heritage

Park.

Glendale residents Sahak Bazrganian and Alexios Halebian will

compete in the boys' 10 singles draw Saturday at the Neal Machander

Tennis Center.

Katie Sullivan and Lauren Hawthorne, both of whom will be seniors

at CV, will play in the girls' 18 singles tournament Saturday at the

Neal Machander Tennis Center.

Charlotte Guy, a junior at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (girls'

16s), Glendale resident Ekaterina Nikolova (girls' 14), and Jessica Harrow, a La Crescenta resident, Sabrina Man-Son-Hing and Sevana

Zargarian (girls' 12) will all take part in their respective

tournaments beginning Saturday.
