June 26, 2003

Donations are being accepted to support a local tow-truck driver and

his family as he recovers from a car accident that severed his legs.

Monterey Tow is accepting donations for the David Garcia Trust

Fund at its two Glendale shops on behalf of the 25-year-old Glendale

man. The money will be deposited at a Verdugo Banking Co., Monterey

Tow owner Bob Morris said.

Garcia was called out June 19 to help a disabled car on the

shoulder of the northbound Glendale (2) Freeway. As Garcia stood

between the tow truck and the disabled car, Choon Suk Ro, 41, of

Montrose, allegedly rear-ended the disabled car, pushing it into the

truck, crushing Garcia between the two vehicles and severing his

legs. Ro then left the scene, officials said. Authorities are still

investigating the crash and charges are pending against Ro,

California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Garrett said.

Checks can be made out to the David Garcia Trust Fund and sent to

Monterey Tow at 601 S. Glendale Ave., Glendale, CA 91205 or 927 Air

Way, Glendale, CA 91201. Donations can also be made at Verdugo

Banking Co., 400 N. Brand Blvd.
