INTO SUMMER

The city's community and wading pools are scheduled to open today

from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Residents can take swim lessons, join the

community swim team or the junior lifeguard academy with the city's

aquatics program. Community pools are at Glendale High School at 1440

E. Broadway and at Hoover High School at 651 Glenwood Rd. Log on to

CHAMBER TO LIGHT UP LA CRESCENTA SKYLINE

Fireworks will light up the sky at Crescenta Valley High School on

the Fourth of July.

The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce will present its annual

fireworks show Friday at the school, 1900 Community Ave. The event

includes a carnival- type atmosphere with rides, live music and food

and entertainment booths.

Locals can bring blankets or lawn chairs to get a comfortable view

of the fireworks, which are expected to start about 9 p.m. Gates

open at 4 p.m.

Admission is $8, and is free for children 4 and younger. The

chamber will donate $1 to local schools for each ticket purchased in

advance. Tickets are available from the chamber, 3131 Foothill Blvd.,

Suite D, in La Crescenta.

LIBRARY TO

SCREEN 'FLY GIRLS'

The Glendale Central Public Library will host a screening of "Fly

Girls" at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the library's auditorium, 222 E. Harvard

St. The screening is free and open to the public.

"Fly Girls" is a film about more than 1,000 women who joined the

Women Air Force Service Pilots during World War II and logged about

60 million miles in the air. The film is about 60 minutes long.

The screening is part of the library's Tuesday Afternoon Film

Series. A film is screened at the library each Tuesday. "Star Trek:

Nemesis" will be screened at 2 p.m. July 8 at the library. For more
