Air quality OK in district classrooms

GLENDALE -- The Glendale Unified School District issued a report

Wednesday stating that good air quality is being maintained in its

classrooms.

The district statement also says that when moisture or water

problems arise in classrooms, primarily portable classrooms, district

maintenance staff follows procedures recommended by the California

Department of Health Services and the U.S. Environmental Protection

Agency.

The statement was issued in response to issues related to

classroom air quality being given recent attention from the

Legislature, state agencies and the media, said Steve Hodgson, chief

business and financial officer for the district.

The district regularly inspects roofs, ceilings, walls, floors and

carpeting for evidence of water leakage or mildew, according to

district reports.
