Firefighters control flames in Angeles National Forest

August 09, 2003

Firefighters reined in the 300-acre blaze that ate through Angeles

National Forest on Thursday and Friday, containing the fire by late

Friday afternoon.

"A few hours ago, it had stopped putting up much of a smoke,"

Angeles National Forest spokesman Stanton Florea said late Friday

afternoon. "There's still a little heat, but it's almost fully

contained."

The blaze started near the 13000 block of Little Tujunga Road and

spread toward La Crescenta. At its height late Thursday afternoon,

smoke could be seen from downtown Glendale. No structures were

threatened by the blaze, Florea said.

The U.S. Forest Service will decide later whether to have a team

study the area to determine how much damage was inflicted, Florea

said.
