While most people took the weekend off for Labor Day, some criminals

were apparently working overtime.

Two Los Angeles men are scheduled to be arraigned today after they

allegedly tried to wrestle a woman's purse away from her. Lafayette

Gene Sherman, 20, and Justin Curtis Allen, 19, were arrested Saturday

on suspicion of robbery after a witness saw them attacking a

60-year-old Glendale woman who was walking in the 1100 block of South

Adams Street, according to police reports.

The men were unsuccessful in taking the woman's purse, police

said. The woman suffered a 3-inch scratch down her right arm in the

skirmish.

The witness wrote down the vehicle's license-plate number and gave

it to police.

Sherman was being held Tuesday on $50,000 bail, while Allen was

held without bail, according to jail records.

In another report, a Glendale man riding his bike in the 1500

block of Orange Grove Avenue reported Monday a man allegedly punched

him several times, while his female companion talked about stealing

his wallet. Although the couple wrestled with the man for his bike,

none of his property was stolen, police said.

A Los Angeles woman reported Sunday two men pushed her down near

the corner of Central Avenue and Windsor Road and stole her purse,

which contained $25 in cash, several food stamps and her passport.

Anyone with information about any of these incidents can make an

anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 507-7867.
