Charter commission to discuss districts

GLENDALE CITY HALL -- The Charter Review Commission, a committee

that is reviewing the Glendale city charter and proposing changes to

the City Council, will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in Room 105 of the

Municipal Services Building, 633 E. Broadway.

The committee will discuss the pros and cons of electing City

Council members by district. Raphael Sonenshein, a political science

professor at Cal State Fullerton and a charter expert, will be on

hand to answer questions.

Glendale school board begins superintendent search

NORTHEAST GLENDALE -- The Glendale Unified School District Board

of Education today will select a professional search firm to assist

the district in hiring a new superintendent of schools.

The board will meet at 1 p.m. today at district headquarters, 223

N. Jackson Street. The meeting is open to the public.

Supt. Jim Brown, 60, announced his retirement in July. His

retirement becomes effective Jan. 31. Brown has been the

superintendent of the Glendale Unified School District since 1996.

Leadership Associates, the California School Boards Assn. and the

Cosca Group will make presentations at the meeting. For more

Frommer to appear on 'Larry Zarian Forum'

GLENDALE -- Assemblyman Dario Frommer (D-Glendale) will be Larry

Zarian's guest on his television show, "The Larry Zarian Forum," at 7

p.m. Thursday on Charter Communications Channel 26.

Frommer will discuss the recall election and Monday's federal

Court of Appeals decision to postpone the election, the two

propositions on the ballot for the Oct. 7 election, and the

possibility of him pursuing the speakership of the house.

La Crescenta resident wins Emmy

LA CRESCENTA -- The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences

awarded La Crescenta resident Craig Pettigrew an Emmy for Outstanding

Sound Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or Special on Saturday at the

Shrine Auditorium.

Pettigrew won for editing the musical score of the miniseries

"Hitler: the Rise of Evil," which aired on CBS in May.

It is the first Emmy for Pettigrew, 47, who worked for four weeks

with composers in Los Angeles and Prague to edit music for the

four-hour show.

"We went up against six other shows, so I was surprised when we

won," he said. He lives with his wife, Judith, and two children,

Gordon and Aaron.
