Sorority alumnae club begins new year
LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- The La Canada Valley Alumnae Club of Pi
Beta Phi will begin its golden anniversary year of meetings and
philanthropic work at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the home of Joest Buehne,
4708 Viro Road., La Canada Flintridge.
The club includes Pi Beta Phi alumnae from colleges and
universities throughout the nation who live in Glendale and the
surrounding area.
President Ann Herrmann will outline plans for the upcoming year at
the meeting. The group's mission is to contribute books to patients
at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles and libraries in inner-city
schools.

GCC offers seminar on postal work
NORTHWEST GLENDALE -- Glendale Community College's Community
Services Education program this month will offer the class "How to
Get a U.S. Post Office Job."
The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and again from 6 to
9 p.m. Oct. 15 in Room 123 at Hoover High School, 651 Glenwood Road.
The seminar is open to the public and costs $40. The seminar will
teach people how to apply for post-office positions and will review
basic requirements for postal-service jobs.
Los Angeles Community College instructor David De La Cruz will
teach the class. De La Cruz was a postal service employee for 35
years.
