Boy struck by car suffers scrapes

December 09, 2003

A Glendale boy was recovering Monday after being hit by a car as he

chased after a man who stole a bag from his trunk.

The 17-year-old boy was kneeling on the ground Saturday in front

of his car in the 1700 block of Opechee Way when he sensed movement

at the rear of the vehicle, according to police reports. The boy

stood to investigate and saw a man running from his car to a dirty

white or off-white, four-door Toyota Corolla with his $40 roadside

hazard bag, police said. The man apparently believed the bag held

more valuable items, police said.

The Corolla started moving as the boy stepped into the street, and

it hit him. The boy rolled onto the windshield and roof, and fell off

the car about 30 feet from where he was struck, police said. The boy

suffered minor scrapes on his right knee and was treated by

paramedics.

The boy told police he did not recognize the man and did not see

the driver of the Corolla.
