MASSAGE PERMITS RUBBED OUT

WHAT HAPPENED

The council voted to extend an interim moratorium on issuing

operator permits for massage parlors.

WHAT IT MEANS

City staff will get an extra five months to set in place

regulations, restrictions and other requirements for the operation of

massage parlors and other massage businesses in the city. The city

does not have a permanent ordinance in place, and is worried that

illicit massage establishments will move to the city to take

advantage of the unregulated nature of the businesses.

VOTE

The council voted 5-0 in favor of extending the moratorium.

RESTAURANTS PICK UP TAB

WHAT HAPPENED

The council voted to establish fees for inspection of restaurant

facilities by the L.A. County Health Department.

WHAT IT MEANS

Local restaurants will reimburse the city $50 for each inspection

once business licenses are renewed. County requirements call for two

inspections of each of the city's 37 restaurants through December

2006.

VOTE

The council voted 5-0 in favor of establishing the inspection

fees.
