Arraignment postponed indefinitely for accused embezzler
GLENDALE -- The arraignment of a La Crescenta woman accused of
embezzling $30,000 from Lincoln Elementary School's Foundation fund
was postponed indefinitely Wednesday while detectives continue their
investigation.
Kenya Duke-Owens, 35, allegedly siphoned the money from the fund
while she served as president and treasurer of the foundation for the
school, where her child was a student. She was arrested Dec. 5 and
released the same day on $20,000 bail. Duke-Owens could not be
reached Wednesday for comment.
Charges of embezzlement and grand theft have not been filed
against Duke-Owens because detectives are awaiting bank records,
Glendale Police financial crimes Sgt. Todd Stokes said.
