Avedian's efforts become routine

Zareh Avedian (Hoover, 1999), senior forward, Cal Lutheran University

men's basketball -- Avedian had another routine night Wednesday, when

he tallied a game-high 25 points in the Kingsmen's 72-69 Southern

California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference home win against

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The Glendale resident also poured in nine rebounds and two blocks

in 33 minutes, as Cal Lutheran (13-3, 4-1 in conference) remained in

a first-place tie with Pomona-Pitzer.

The Kingsmen will play Pomona-Pitzer at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at

home.

Avedian -- who is averaging 22.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game

-- has led his team in scoring 11 times, in addition to having a

team-high in rebounds on eight occasions.

He's also posted three double-doubles.

Doug English (Crescenta Valley, 1999), senior libero, Cal State

University, Northridge men's volleyball -- English has moved up in

Northridge's all-time dig list in his final campaign. He is in fourth

place with 703 after tallying 56 (1.7 per game) in the Matadors'

first eight matches.

English -- an All-Pacific Sports Federation first-team selection

last year, when he led the nation in digs, recording a school-record

of 318 -- started the season in sixth place. He is just 12 digs out

of third place.

English has registered double figures in digs twice this year.

He's the only player who has seen action in all 33 games this season

for Northridge.

The Matadors (5-3, 1-2 in conference) -- ranked sixth in the

American Volleyball Coaches Assn./USA Today poll -- will end their

three-match road trip this week when they play No. 13 Pacific on

Friday and No. 8 Stanford on Saturday. Both matches will start at 7

p.m.

Northridge will return Feb. 4 to meet UC Irvine at 7 p.m. to begin

its 11-match homestand, the longest in program history.
