'Character' awards deadline today

GLENDALE -- The deadline for nominations for the annual Character

& Ethics Awards is today.

The awards honor business and community members who exhibit

outstanding character and ethics.

Business or individual nominations should be e-mailed to the

Ethics & Character Project at ethics@glendale.net.

Information should include the name of the nominee and the

"guiding principals" they represent. For a list of the principles,

and more information, call the project at 523-1950.

The awards ceremony will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. March 18 at the

Glendale Central Library, 222 E. Harvard St.

LCF City Hall dark tonight

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- City Hall will be closed today because of

the Presidents Day holiday.

The regularly scheduled council meeting has been moved to 7 p.m.

Tuesday. City staff will present a year-end report of accomplishments

by the city's different departments.

CVWD to discuss town council attendance

LA CRESCENTA -- The Crescenta Valley Water District Board of

Directors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at district headquarters, 2700

Foothill Blvd.

The board will consider a schedule for board members to attend

monthly meetings of the Crescenta Valley Town Council. The proposal

is a response to public criticism of the district's decision to

remove 11 mature trees at its headquarters.

Red Cross to offer discount CPR class

DOWNTOWN GLENDALE -- The Glendale-Crescenta Valley chapter of the

American Red Cross will host its annual Super CPR Saturday on March

6, a chance for Glendale residents to learn CPR at a discount price.

The four-hour course, which normally costs $31, will cost $10 if

paid in advance or $15 if paid on the day of the event. Classes begin

at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 1501 S. Brand Blvd., and participants who

successfully complete the course get an Adult CPR Certificate.

Auditions planned for college production

NORTHEAST GLENDALE -- Open auditions for the upcoming Glendale

Community College theater production of "Run for the Roses" by Brent

Falco will be at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the Auditorium Studio

Theater.

Auditions for combined male and female versions of Neil Simon's

"The Odd Couple" will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 and 24 in the Auditorium

Mainstage.

Cast members selected for the productions will need to enroll in

the theater arts program at the college.

College hosts auditions next week

NORTHEAST GLENDALE -- Glendale Community College will have

auditions for its Concert Singers at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 in room 211 of

the college's auditorium building.

Auditions are for the group's spring concert season, which will

include performing Mozart's "Requiem."

The Concert Singers perform traditional choral pieces and more

recent works locally. Glenn DeLange is the musical director.
