Brown honored for community service

GLENDALE -- The Los Angeles North Chapter of the Brigham Young

University Alumni Assn. recently presented Jim Brown with its

Community Service Award.

Brown retired Jan. 31 as superintendent of the Glendale Unified

School District. He had been superintendent since 1996.

Glendale residents Ann and Don Pearson, who head the association's

Los Angeles North chapter, said Brown was honored for the many

contributions he made to the quality of education in the Glendale

community.

Restaurant to donate proceeds to shelter

MONTROSE -- Oceanview Bar and Grill will donate proceeds from

dinners ordered Monday to the Glendale Humane Society.

The grill's management will donate 20% of the proceeds from

dinners ordered between 5 to 9 p.m. at the restaurant, 3826 Ocean

View Blvd.

Toll teacher named Woman of the Year

NORTHWEST GLENDALE -- The Glendale Latino Assn. recently honored

Cathie Montoro as its Woman of the Year.

Montoro is a Spanish teacher at Toll Middle School. In 2000, she

helped establish Latinos Unidos and the Latino Student Initiative for

the Glendale Unified School District.

School board members honored Montoro at Tuesday's board meeting.
