Two burglars looking to steal money from a bakery's automated teller

machine backed their truck through a plate-glass window early Monday

and then fled when confronted by neighbors and workers, police said.

The burglars broke into Paradise Bakery, at 1817 W. Glenoaks Blvd., about 3:20 a.m. Monday by backing a black Chevrolet Silverado

pickup truck that was stolen out of Burbank, according to police

reports.

The burglars apparently tried to destroy the machine by running it

over because there were tire tracks across it, according to the

report.

When a worker came out to the front of the store and confronted

the men, they drove across Glenoaks Boulevard, over the center island

and south onto Irving Avenue, police said.

The truck was later found in an alley behind 6227 San Fernando

Road, police said.

The burglary was the second in Glendale in three days. Burglars

also broke into the burned-out strip mall at 4121 Pennsylvania Ave.

on Saturday, police said. The burglars entered the Gardenia Market

and Deli, at the opposite side of the strip mall, through a hole they

made in the roof and stole candy, cigars and upended a cash register.

Electricity was cut to the entire building after the fire that

destroyed three buildings Feb. 15, so none of the burglar alarms or

cameras were operating.

"We will set up patrol to go by every once in a while, but it's up

to the owner to actually secure the building," Glendale Police

burglary Investigator Miguel Porras said.

Anyone with information about either of these incidents can call

Glendale Police at 548-4840. Anonymous tips can be made by calling

Crime Stoppers at 507-7867.
