Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches.
Meredith Cervenka (Crescenta Valley, 2001), junior pitcher, Long
Beach State softball -- The right-hander continues to fare well with
the 49ers. Cervenka, a four-time News-Press Player of the Year
selection, is 5-1 this season with a 1.48 earned-run average.
Cervenka last pitched Feb. 21 against Iowa State in the 14th
annual Campbell/Chartier Classic Tournament at Poway. In a
complete-game effort, Cervenka allowed two earned runs, three hits
and struck out nine.
In another tournament contest against No. 4-ranked Washington,
Cervenka scattered five hits and struck out four in a 1-0 victory
Feb. 20.
She's pitched 42 2/3 innings this season, allowing nine earned
runs, 28 hits and struck out 31. Cervenka has tossed six complete
games and has recorded 12 assists.
Melanie McCauley (Crescenta Valley, 2002), sophomore infielder,
Long Beach State softball -- McCauley is slowly coming into form with
the 49ers (10-4).
Through Sunday, McCauley is batting .207 with six hits, two runs
batted in and a .241 slugging percentage. She's walked five times and
has one double.
McCauley, a four-time All-Area first-team selection, has started
13 of Long Beach State's first 14 games this season and has a .324
on-base percentage. McCauley has recorded 11 putouts and 33 assists
and sports a .957 fielding percentage.
