Fundraiser celebrates

St. Patrick's Day

The Cabrini Literary Guild will have its annual fundraiser,

"Celebration of St. Patrick's Day," March 13 at the Oakmont Country

Club in Glendale.

Organizing the event is Chairwoman Joan Hutton. President of the

guild is Patricia Price.

The day begins at 11 a.m. with a social hour and viewing of raffle

prizes. Luncheon will follow. There will be a silent auction, prizes,

raffle baskets, a money tree and more. Entertainment will feature

Dennis Doyle, singer, harpist and teller of Irish tales in keeping

with the theme of the luncheon.

This event is the guild's only fundraiser. Thousands of dollars

have been donated to local and Catholic charities. The proceeds also

go to scholarships for winners of the writing award contests in

April. The Cabrini Literary Guild is also a member of the Glendale

Community Foundation. It is Glendale/Burbank-based but welcomes

members from other communities.

Tickets are $50. Reservations deadline is Monday and they can be

made by calling 244-9815.

Chavez designs

shown at charity show

Oakmont League will have fashion designer Lourdes Chavez, who has

created fashions for TV shows like "Dynasty," present her designs at

the "Spring into Fashion" show and luncheon March 18 at the Sheraton

Universal Hotel in Universal City.

Topping the list of prizes are a trip to Hawaii and a 50/50 cash

drawing. The highlight of the many prizes in the silent auction is a

one-week vacation on Balboa Island. Special tables will be reserved

for gentlemen guests.

Chairwomen Jeri Benton and Barbara McCullough and their committee

are busy with preparations for this event.

Fashion designer Chavez will show her elegant and sophisticated

designs. She was sole designer for Travilla before opening her own

design house, Lourdes Chavez Collections. The award- winning Chavez

has created designs for several TV series including outfits worn by

Linda Evans on "Dynasty."

Oakmont League of Glendale is a philanthropic organization and all

proceeds from this event go to Glendale charities and scholarships.

Reservations deadline is March 15 and they can be made by calling

Barbara McCullough at 241-1821.

Residents attend hearing institute's benefit

Residents will attend the House Ear Institute's 26th annual

Benefit Gala on March 18 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Those

attending are Mark A. Pedowitz and Carolyn A. Martin, Mr. and Mrs.

Laurence G. Preble and Dr. and Mrs. Orrin Terry, all of La Canada

Flintridge, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Patterson of Glendale.

Proceeds go to hearing health research and children's programs at

the institute. Philanthropist Robert H. Ahmanson will be recognized

as Humanitarian of the Year for his support of the institute's

research programs through the Ahmanson Foundation.
