BASEBALL
Hoover 14, San Gabriel 0: The Tornadoes earned a five-inning,
mercy-rule victory in Tuesday's pool-play game of the Arcadia Elks
Tournament at Monrovia High.
Junior Tae Kwon earned the victory, tossing a one-hitter while
striking out seven. The lone hit was a bunt single by San Gabriel.
Offensively, Hoover (2-0) was led by Erick Avila. The first
baseman went two for two with a double and a home run. He scored
three runs and drove in three, as well.
Sophomore John La went three for four with two triples and three
runs batted in. He now has three triples on the year.
Sophomore Brian Moon had a good game, as well, going two for three
with three runs and two RBIs.
The Tornadoes will play South Pasadena at 3:15 p.m. Friday at
Monrovia in another pool-play contest.
La Canada 11, North Hollywood 0: The Spartans improved to 2-1 with
Monday's home victory in the San Fernando Valley Victory Spring
Classic.
Matt Stoner earned the win for the Spartans.
Glendale 8, Canoga Park 7: The Nitros improved to 2-1 with
Monday's home victory in the San Fernando Valley Victory Spring
Classic.
BOYS' GOLF
St. Francis 194, West Hills Chaminade 212: Mark Skeehan's
two-over-par 37 on Tuesday at Woodland Hills Golf Course led the
Golden Knights to a Mission League win.
St. Francis' Bobby Arranaga and Leonard Shonka each shot a 38, Joe
Forbes had a 40 and Logan Hunter carded a 41.
St. Francis (2-1, 2-0 in league) will play Encino Crespi at 3:15
p.m. today at Harding Golf Course in another league match.
Flintridge Prep 218, L.A. Cathedral 245: Flintridge Prep's Brett
Kanda took low-medalist honors at Harding Golf Course in Griffith
Park, shooting a two-over-par 39 to lead the Rebels to Tuesday's
season-opening win.
Teammates Jordan Sharpe (40), Chris Park (42), Blake Fullmer (46)
and Drew Titus (51) also contributed for the Rebels.
La Canada 186, Saugus 200: Phil Horwith shot an even-par 34
Tuesday to carry the host Spartans in a nonleague match at La Canada
Country Club.
