DESCANSO ROMANCE BLOOMS

The opening of Descanso Gardens' eight-week Spring Festival of

Flowers kicks off Saturday and Sunday with "Romantic Rendezvous." A

strolling accordion player will play in the romantic settings from 1

to 3 p.m. both days.

Descanso Gardens is at 1418 Descanso Drive, and is open 9 a.m. to

4:30 p.m. Admission fees are $6; $4 for seniors and students; $1.50

for children 5 to 12; and free for members and children 4 and

PRESIDENTIAL SON TO SPEAK AT BREAKFAST

Steve Ford, actor and son of former President Gerald Ford, will be

the keynote speaker at Thursday's Mayor's Breakfast, featuring Mayor

Frank Quintero. Police Chief Randy Adams will serve as master of

ceremonies for the event, which begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Hilton

Glendale, 100 W. Glenoaks Blvd. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased

in advance at the Chamber of Commerce, 200 S. Louise St., the City

Clerk's office at City Hall, 613 E. Broadway, and Gay's Towing

Service, 5146 San Fernando Road. Tickets can also be purchased at the

ORCHESTRA COMES TO GLENDALE

The Southern Adventist University Symphony Orchestra will perform

at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Glendale's Hall of the

Resurrection, 1712 S. Glendale Ave.

The group has developed from a chamber ensemble to an orchestra of

70 members from university, community and local secondary schools.
