Foothills' 'best politician' doesn't represent Montrose

April 09, 2004

I was all set to write to the News-Press and rave about the Montrose

Founders' Day. It was exceptional in every way. It was just like a

neighborhood family reunion, with the family being the entire

foothill community. It was impressively planned and impressively

presented, and thousands of citizens were on hand to enjoy the

nostalgia and the history and the glorious atmosphere and setting

that has made Montrose my favorite for decades.

This current group running things in the shopping district has

made a direct connection with me and this event and the others,

emanating from whoever their activity director is, has made me

prouder of the town than I have been in many years. This, dear

friends, has made me a loyal shopper.

Having said that, I want to also take this opportunity to point

out that I did not see Councilman Dave Weaver in attendance at the

event, although I saw many others from the city of Glendale, some of

whom were involved as presenters of awards and some who came simply

to show support for an important asset within our city, namely

Montrose itself.

I would not have written to make this observation about Mr.

Weaver's absence from the festivities were it not for opening the

paper to read the "Best of the Foothills" section of the News-Press

the other day. I am truly disgusted that Dave Weaver has chosen to

use the "Best of" section to campaign for reelection. He even goes so

far as to include a phone number for those who wish to assist with

his reelection to call in. Judging from the numerous "eggs" he has

laid related to Montrose in recent times, I'm surprised he didn't

receive an award for "Best Poultry Farmer." I'll bet his campaign

phone line advertised in his "acceptance" of the best politician

award was just ringing off the hook with happy Montrose residents for

whom Mr. Weaver has time and again proved his undying love. If "no"

votes were counted as kisses, Montrose would be smothered by Weaver's

affections by now.

I find it truly offensive that my elected city official, Dave

Weaver, did not take the time to acknowledge the 91st anniversary of

the Montrose community, but has the gall to use his inclusion in the

News-Press "Best of" section to campaign with an appeal made directly

to those he just snubbed. It sure seems like Weaver is continuing on

his merry march toward political oblivion.

Thank you, Mayor Quintero, for caring about Montrose and

supporting this part of the city. Thank you, councilmen Manoukian and

Yousefian, for also supporting us and showing us your respect by

attending our founders' event. I would also like to say thank you to

the members of the Glendale city staff who participated.

I have been wondering who in their right mind would want to buy a

home and live inside the new Town Center fortress being planned. Now

I realize that Councilman Weaver would be the perfect candidate.

After all, he hasn't instigated any trouble there yet. In fact, he

seems to be leading the charge to ram this project through.

I'm sure once the Town Fortress is completed, Weaver could head up

the homeowners' association entombed within the fortress walls. He

certainly isn't representing, or for that matter respecting, me and

my community as an elected official.
