CV boys', girls' swim teams defeat Hart

Both the Crescenta Valley boys' and girls' varsity swimming teams won eight of 11 events in their nonleague meets against host Newhall Hart last Friday at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.

The boys' squad won 111-59 and the girls triumphed 101-69 to both improve to 6-0 overall. Both of their league marks remain at 3-0.

For the boys, Peter Lee and Chris Sherman each won two events for the Falcons. Lee won the 100 butterfly (53.13) and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.0) while Sherman took the 50 freestyle (22.77) and the 100 freestyle (50.27).

In addition, Jinu Jung won the 200 individual medley (1:59.73).

The Falcons also won three team events. The team of Gaku Ito, Jung, Peter Lee and Sherman took first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:23.16). The team of Peter Lee, Jung, Sherman and Kevin Lee won the 200 medley relay (1:42.63) and the team of Jin Kim, Kevin Lee, Scott Ruygrok and Nick Trimis came in first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.8).

For the girls, two swimmers captured two events each. Minah Kim took the 200 individual medley (2:16.9) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.25) while Sara Sun won the 50 freestyle (24.2) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.18).

Katheryn DeJong also won the 500 freestyle (5;40.0) and Meghedy Shanazarian placed first in the 100 butterfly (1:05.34).

As a team, the girls won the 200 medley relay (1:59.87) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:48.84).

In an earlier league meet against host Glendale on April 14, both the boys' and girls' teams were victorious. The boys won 126-44 while the girls triumphed 114-55. The boys won all 11 events while the girls captured eight events.

Sherman won two races for the boys, taking the 50 freestyle (23:03) and 100 freestyle (50.66). Winning single events were Jung, James Martin, Ito, Chris Kang, Peter Lee and Seong-Jin Moon.

As a team, the boys won the 200 medley relay (1:43.9), the 200 freestyle relay (1:37.09) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.87).

The girls' team had two swimmers with multiple wins. Minah Kim won the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley while Sun captured the 50 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.

Individual winners were DeJong and Shanazarian.

As a team, the girls won the 200 medley relay (1:59.86) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:52.01).
