Woman killed by train Wednesday morning identified

May 04, 2004

Investigators were still working Monday to determine whether a train

collision that killed a woman was an accident or suicide.

Betty Willmon, 59, of Sherman Oaks, was identified through her

dental records, but investigators have not ruled if her death was an

accident or suicide, Los Angeles County Coroner's officials said.

Willmon reportedly stepped under the railroad-crossing guardrail

on Sonora Avenue, just south of San Fernando Road, and into the path

of a southbound Metrolink train Wednesday morning.

Glendale Police investigators confirmed that they have spoken to

her family, who said they did not believe Willmon was suicidal,

Investigator Matt Gunnell said.

"But she had mental health issues she was dealing with, which

seemed to be more severe than anyone thought," he said.
