An Alhambra man faces 40 years in prison after he pleaded guilty

Friday to five counts of sexually abusing his 9-year-old goddaughter.

Guillermo Nunez, 49, faced 168 years in prison -- up to eight

years apiece for each of the 21 charges of forcible lewd acts upon a

child he is facing, Deputy Dist. Atty. Natalie Adomian said.

Nunez instead agreed to strike a bargain with the Los Angeles

County District Attorney's office and pleaded guilty to five counts

to receive a lesser sentence of 40 years in prison. He is required to

serve at least 34 years of his sentence, Adomian said. If he is

granted parole at the end of his 34 years in prison, he will be

required to register as a sex offender.

Nunez's attorney, Anthony Solis, could not be reached for comment

Friday.

Nunez was a friend of the Glendale girl's family for 15 years and

baby-sat the child on a regular basis. Nunez's son found several

videotapes of him engaging in sexual acts with the girl, which

culminated in the July 29 report made to Glendale Police.

"There's lots and lots of filming of this guy with this little

girl," Adomian said. "[On one tape], she looks like she's about 6

years old."

Nunez did not have a past history of being a sexual predator,

Adomian said.

Nunez is scheduled to be sentenced June 14 and was being held

Friday on $2.1-million bail at Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles.
